01/12/06 Residence Association takes legal advice in Camposol, Mazarrón

The chairman of the Camposol Residents’ Association, Roy Pugh, issued a statement, “We are having our first full meeting with our legal team on Monday evening and this will point out the way ahead for us. It might be a thought that in this respect we could work even closer with the town hall. “They might give us their official blessing on this, because after all we are all working for the common good of the people of Camposol. “Our priority tasking for the legal team will be to expose the Plan Parcial to us so that we can tell our people what has actually gone wrong with the developer in not building to plan and thus creating the situation we are now in.

“One thing we do need is financial backing and because of the apathy of the people we can’t really rely on them as a reliable source. The council might go some way to helping us in this respect.”
Last week the Mayor of Mazarrón, Francisco Blaya, said in an exclusive interview with the Round Town News that the local town council was doing all it could to remedy the situation at Camposol. Several Camposol residents expressed concern and doubts about the mayor’s comments .

In particular, the question of whether or not he said in a meeting that the urbanisation was illegal is disputed. A person who was at the meeting says that the word illegal was definitely used. The mayor says there was a mistake in translation. It is also said that there are now 4,500 registered voters living at Camposol with elections coming up on May 27th next year and this may be a factor in recent initiatives by the town council.

A Spanish man commented, “In my opinion any town hall is morally forced to take action so that residents’ will get a better life instead of kneeling at property developers’ feet. You have to know that here in Spain most of our town halls are under the influence of property developers or other rich persons. In fact they are the real rulers.”.
